Cosmetology Courses
Level 1 and 2- 3 credits per level; per year
The two-year Cosmetology program provides an overview of the Cosmetology field and the opportunity to earn the state Cosmetology license.
Do you have a passion for hair, makeup, skin care or nails? Would you like to get a professional license by the time you leave high school? Do you like to work hard and have fun? Then this is the class for you!
The Cosmetology program is a two-year course that culminates in industry certification by the Virginia Board of Cosmetology. Students learn both the theory and practical skills necessary to obtain their cosmetology license at the end of their second year.
The program introduces the history and opportunities that the cosmetology industry provides as well as life skills, professional image, cosmetology sciences, hair care, nail care, skin care and the business aspect of managing or becoming a salon owner.
In a salon setting, students practice professionalism and skilled techniques on manikins, fellow classmates, school personnel, and the general public. Industry professionals are invited as guest speakers to demonstrate the latest trends and showcase the newest products. Students have the opportunity to be hired by area salon business owners while enrolled in the course and upon graduation.
Cosmetology 1
- 3 credit class that meets all day every other day for the entire school year.
- Half of each class will focus on theory and the other half will focus on practical application.
Cosmetology 2
- 3 credit class that meets all day every other day for the entire school year.
- Half of each class will focus on theory and the other half will focus on practical application.
- Eligible Cosmetology 2 Students will take the https://www.dpor.virginia.gov/Boards/Barber exam.
