Automotive Technology
Marshall Academy offers rigorous Automotive Technology training, including three years instruction. See the course descriptions listed below:
Automotive Technology, Level 1: One Credit
- Students will study and define the major systems of the automobile, related tools and equipment, and the automotive industry.
- An emphasis will be placed on diagnosing systems, developing troubleshooting skills, and the safe use of equipment.
- Curriculum is developed from the ASE/VDOE task lists.
Automotive Technology, Levels 2 and 3: Two Credits
- Students are introduced to digital diagnostic equipment to perform tasks and competencies as defined by Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).
- Topics include engine repair, engine performance, brakes, electrical and electronic systems and suspension and steering systems.
- Students completing Auto Technology 2 with a minimum grade of "B" may obtain two to nineteen credits at the Northern Virginia Community College in Automotive Technology by successfully completing the Assessment By Local Examination (ABLE) administered by the college staff or the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) exam.
Classes take place in full service Automotive Labs within Marshall Academy.

Internship Opportunities
Fairfax County's Division of Vehicle Services (DVS) Internship
- Level 2-3 students have the opportunity to intern part-time at a DVS Facility during the fall, spring or summer.
- Students receive a DVS t-shirt and work boots.
- Students work with a DVS Senior Technician who provides mentorship and professional guidance performing preventative maintenance tasks, perform repairs and tire repairs, etc...
Beyer Volvo
- Level 2-3 students intern part-time at Beyer Volvo Automotive year-round.
- Students work with a Beyer Volvo Technician performing preventative maintenance tasks, perform repairs and tire repairs, etc...
Stohlman
- Level 2-3 students intern part-time at Stohlman Automotive year-round.
- Students work with a Stohlman Technician performing preventative maintenance tasks, perform repairs and tire repairs, etc...
VA Tire and Auto Internship
- Level 1-3 students have the opportunity to intern part-time at a local VA Tire and Auto servicing center for six weeks.
- The internship program is centered on learning about the entire auto repair business, from inspecting and repairing vehicles, to customer relationships, ordering parts and managing workflow. Inspecting and repairing vehicles while learning under our experienced general service staff.
